Asanga Egodawatte, who started a Peace March on August 28th from Durham North Carolina, is now nearing the completion of his 600 mile walk. If everything goes according to schedule Asanga plans to reach the Statue of Liberty on the morning of Sunday the 22 nd.
Today, the doctoral student in Para-Psychology at the Duke University began trekking along the northbound Route 1 in central New Jersey around 11 AM. Route 1, the main North-South highway in the east coast during the times gone by, had been with Asanga through most of the journey: Pedestrians are not allowed on our modern freeways. Many have stopped by to talk to him on these local roads, and have been deeply impressed by the young Sri Lankan's goal and his resolve.
